If you go on holiday with a group of people, its likely that you can find that one of you will go free for every, say, 10 that goes on the trip. This is how schools get teachers to go on ski trips for instance, as a teacher can go free for every certain number of kids who go. This concept is similar for travel insurance. You could get travel insurance for maybe £50 for one person for the trip, but for 10 people it may cost £450 or £400 to ensure everyone, which means one or two people are insured for free. But it isn't only school skiing trips that count as a group trip.

Think about the occasions that you may go away in a group, and all of those could be covered by group travel insurance. A family is a group in a way, although it's a separate enough group that you can get actual family travel insurance policies - where adults are insured and the kids may go free or heavily discounted.

A sports team can be a group. If your football team wasn't to go away on a tour of a country, you should be able to get group travel insurance. Bear in mind though that you must check what this covers, as travel insurance is there to cover travel, in terms of the travel and accommodation and sickness etc. You need to make sure that your group is covered for the football that you may play on tour, because it adds risks which may add to premiums.

Another group is a stag or hen party. Stags and hen parties may stay in England or go abroad, maybe in Europe or Las Vegas or it could be anywhere. The main point is that stags and hens go away in groups, and so group travel insurance is probably the best policy for the group, as it will be the best value. Again, just like sports teams, you need to make sure that you are covered by the group travel insurance policy for the activities you are doing. Many Stag and Hen groups may do quad biking or go-karting for instance, and these cause risks which can raise premiums and must be covered.

As for where you can buy group travel insurance, well, some insurance companies actually specialise in group travel insurance policies, and those are the ones you should go to first, as they are most likely to help you. Search on the internet for these, as the internet enables them to charge lower premiums due to a reduction in administration costs. It's well worth shopping around but you should make sure that you and your group are really covered for everything.
