What is European Holiday Insurance?

Some holiday insurance companies will specialize in Europe because that is the area that they know most about. As they know most about it, and have the most contacts within the area, and thus are able to offer better value products to customers. It's no different from having other niches in which companies specialize and thus win business by offering better value for that particular niche. Also, with many ski destinations in Europe, it's hardly as if holiday insurance companies completely cut down risks, as we well know that skiing and other dangerous sports carry more risks and are thus more expensive to insure.

The E111 issue is very important when looking at European holiday insurance. This form permits certain medical procedures to be offered free or at very reduced costs for residents of the UK in all countries in the European Economic Area (EEA), which is the 15 member states of the European Union, which will grow to 25 in 2004. Bear in mind of course that this doesn't apply in Switzerland, which is not part of the EEA, yet has many Ski destinations within it. Because this medical attention is cheap, the costs of insuring someone in Europe will in turn be cheaper.

The repatriation issue is also vital. Watch almost any of those airline or airport docusoaps on television and you'll very likely to see one poor soul who is on a stretcher taking up 6 seats on an airplane to get home after an accident. Without holiday insurance, this would be ridiculously expensive.
