How do I find the cheapest holiday insurance?

Some people while they are travelling end up paying over the odds for something out of desperation, be it food or emergency accommodation, or even maybe an activity. With time being of essence whilst travelling, it is not surprising that you may up paying over the odds, but there is little excuse to be doing so before your holiday is even near starting.

Sometimes, it could be down to inertia, or sometimes it could be due to the rather subtle pressure applied by travel agents, but as people book their annual vacation they may throw money away. In fact, they may be paying over give times what they actually need to for a particular part of their holiday.

Whilst holiday insurance isn't compulsory, it should be pretty obvious why it is foolhardy to go away without holiday insurance. In November 1998, travel agencies were banned by the government from insisting that you take out their holiday insurance cover in order to achieve a discount on your holiday. But people still get caught up in the euphoria of booking a holiday and relax enough to make the almost nonsensical decision to take holiday insurance from the travel agent. Interestingly enough, it may be because they are so delighted at getting the holiday of their choice when they want where they want and at a great price that they end their search for value for money when it comes to holiday insurance.
The difference can be amazing. For instance a family of four is likely to cost £150 to cover for a single trip at a travel agents, yet only about £30 from a holiday insurance broker. That is £120 difference, which could make a big difference as spending money on your holiday. Yet over two thirds of holidaymakers take out travel insurance from their travel agent. Worse, 20% of holidaymakers don't even know that they legally have a choice of where to buy cover.

SO when travel agents make what is a quite innocuous request for insurance details when you book your policy, you are not obliged to take their offer, and you almost definitely will not get the cheapest holiday insurance if you do so. So undertake research into what is available elsewhere before you even book your holiday.
Should you go abroad more than once a year, the cheapest holiday insurance is likely to be an annual policy. Should you be going abroad in a group, or a family, the cheapest holiday insurance is likely to be a group or family policy. The internet is the cheapest way to get insurance as it cuts down on admin costs for insurers. But make sure that you have the right cover, or else it will never be cheap.
