You should think about whether you would like cover for business trips to be included in your annual holiday insurance policy. Then you should look at whether you would be better served by getting a family policy (where the kids can be sometimes included in the price) or a joint policy with your price. Think about what you would be prepared to pay as excess on your claims, which is a way to bring down the cost of the policy. Finally, think about whether you want your baggage and money to be covered.

It's worth thinking about what holiday insurance will not cover. Detention or the confiscation of your belongings by customers or government officials isn't covered. The risk of radioactive contamination is not covered. You will also not be covered for losses that result from exchange rate movements or against HIV infection and AIDS.
