What is annual holiday travel insurance?

Should you take more than two trips in a year, for whatever reason, you are very likely to be better off by taking out annual holiday travel insurance. This means that you can not only save money per trip compared to buying individual policies. , but also that you don't have to go through the hassle of arranging annual holiday travel insurance cover for every single trip that you make (it can take a lot of time, what with searching for the best policy and applying for it).

Most annual holiday travel insurance policies will allow you as many trips as you want to take in a year. There may be some limits to this, in that you may only be able to take a maximum length of trip of maybe 30,45, 60 or 90 days. Some annual holiday travel insurance policies also put limits on the total amount of days you take that year.

Some annual travel insurance policies will not cover you for skiing or snowboarding. It is not necessarily fair of them to automatically do so anyway. Why should you subsidise those people who go on more dangerous holidays? However, many people who go on many trips in a year are likely to be going on skiing trips, and those people who are should endeavour to find a company that includes skiing insurance on the policy. In addition, should you be the adventurous type, you may want to find a company that insures skydiving, walking, mountain, outdoor and adventure sports as well. Take the time to find the annual holiday insurance which covers you for everything you need.

Whilst there is no doubt that annual holiday travel insurance can be good value for one person who takes a lot of trips, it is even better value for families. You'll find that economies of scale work in travel insurance, but this is the case in particular for annual travel insurance. Getting joint annual insurance for a couple is cheaper that the same cover for two single people. Getting cover for an entire family with children who are under 18 is not normally much cheaper than the cover that you get for a couple.

With family cover, you should be careful of the restrictions on the cover. For instance, you will find that some family policies for travel insurance will only cover a family if they always travel together during that year. A way of comparing travel insurers' annual holiday policies is that the best ones cover each person in the family, be they adult or child, for all trips, on their own or accompanied.
