Pet Plan Pet Insurance: Compare

http://www.petplan.co.uk/

If you’re thinking of getting a pet, don’t just ask yourself how much that doggy in the window is but how much it will cost you to take him to the vet. Pet insurance is, perhaps surprisingly, the third biggest area of the UK insurance market after car and home insurance. Yet it’s estimated that half or more of cat owners and a quarter of dog owners still don’t have it. Pet Plan pet insurance is the market leader in this growing sector and unlike some insurers, they will cover rabbits and horses as well as cats and dogs. According to its own estimate, Pet Plan insures nearly 600,000 cats, dogs and bunnies and more than 50,000 horses.

One major benefit to Pet Plan pet insurance is that as long as you keep renewing it, it can be extended throughout your animal’s life and there is no limit to how much you can claim for a chronic condition. This is in contrast to the policy common among insurers of only covering the first twelve months of any condition the pet is diagnosed with or setting an upper limit on the amount that will be paid out for a particular condition over the pet’s life. Some customers might also see as an asset the fact that claims can be made either in writing or by phone rather than being entirely phone-based. But when buying insurance, always research the options carefully and compare quotes and cover from several different insurers to find what suits you best. Don’t just go with the first thing you see.

Pet Plan’s website (www.petplan.co.uk) is well-designed. Aside from the online quote facility and information about the insurer’s policies, there’s a vet locator. And you can find out about ‘Mane Men’. This is a charity calendar featuring twelve horse-loving male celebrities including Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, John McCririck of Celeb Big Brother fame and the lovely Anthony Stewart Head from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Proceeds go to Riding for the Disabled so if it’s still being sold when you visit the site it’s worth buying one even if you decide not to go for the insurance. You can’t see the whole calendar online but apparently Mr November Tony Hadley ‘ epitomises Gene Kelly in the famous scene from Singing in the Rain’. John McCririck, meanwhile, ‘adds a touch of humour to the calendar with his hilarious antics caught on camera at Sandown Park’… hmm. It’s always nice to see pictures of Mr Giles though. Apparently his horse, Otto, had a role in Buffy too.
