"More Than" had a go at some of its rivals a while ago for refusing to insure pets above a certain age. Now it’s a bit more common to see providers offering lifetime insurance schemes, but More Than pet insurance still deserves credit for being one of them. There’s no maximum age for starting a More Than scheme and there’s no time limit for claiming back the ₤6,000 allowance for vet’s bills… some insurers will only pay out on a condition for a year after the date of first treatment. More Than’s policy is not the most liberal on the market though – some don’t limit the amount claimable per condition.

But generally speaking More Than’s standard policy offers the things you should expect from pet insurance. These include the above mentioned allowance of ₤6,000 per condition for vet’s bills; up to ₤600 for press adverts and rewards should your pet get lost; and the same amount for kennel or cattery fees if you have to spend more than four days in hospital. Some nice extra touches include cover for alternative treatments such as acupuncture (which raises an interesting image of how much scratching and hissing would be involved in explaining the process to a Siamese, but what do I know?). And the company was among the first to acknowledge how important the four-legged members of its clients’ families are by offering a free bereavement and serious illness counselling service should the worst happen.
