Are house prices cheaper in Wales?

Do you know what your dream home would look like? Would it have 4 bedrooms? Do you want a garden? A big kitchen? Perhaps a lovely garden? Is it important for you to have a detached home instead of being forced to listen to the arguments at no.32 next door through those paper thin walls. Well, if you live in London, you'd need about a half a million pounds to make your dreams come true. But there are some places in the country where, armed with £200,000 or so, you could get any kind of property you want. Do your homework and you could find areas in the UK where property prices are low enough that there will be a wide variety of choices available to you.

In case you haven't noticed, property prices have been shooting up since the millennium turned. Economists insist that this property boom is the same in scale as that one which eventually crashed in 1989. To try to avoid a crash like that of the early 90s, the Council of Mortgage Lenders has tried to persuade the Bank of England to raise interest rates.

As property prices shoot up, it becomes harder for first time buyers to get a leg onto the property ladder. Expanding families wanting to get the most room for the least money whilst also being able to sell their own home are also struggling. Both of these groups would benefit from looking all over the UK and finding out if there are any regions where the 20% a year price hikes are not the norm.

The fact is that technological advances mean that those who work at home can actually live anywhere they want as long as their clients or employers have reasonable access to them. All you need is a decent transport system, near to motorways and a rail service which runs, and your client access is adequate anywhere in the UK. As broadband provision increases over Britain, people who want to flee the suffocating cost of living in London and the South East are given a greater choice for house buying.
