Apply for mobile phone insurance?

Apply for mobile phone insurance, it's very simple whether you're doing it via an online insurance company, on the phone or face to face.

You will need to provide your:

• Name and address (including post code)
• Phone's make, model and IMEI number
• Mobile phone number
• Date and proof of purchase

If you are buying your mobile phone insurance from a Bank or setting up a direct debit you will also need to provide your account number and sort code.

A suitable proof of purchase is usually a purchase receipt, a dispatch note or an airtime bill, which shows the IMEI number and the make/model of your handset. You are usually required to produce at least one suitable proof of purchase when you make a claim. Some insurers can accept your application and provide cover immediately, others may take 48 hours or longer to process an application.

You will be issued with a mobile phone insurance policy document. When applying online these are often available to be printed immediately, or alternatively are emailed or posted to you. The claims procedure is very similar across mobile phone insurers, you are required to contact them as soon as a claimable event occurs and if the phone has been stolen you will be required to notify the police and obtain an incident reference number from them before your claim can be processed.

Keep your mobile phone insurance documentation in a safe place and the claim contact numbers handy and separate from your mobile phone. If you subsequently change your mobile phone remember to also update your insurance!
