Compare Car Insurance - Online Comparison UK

A Car insurance comparison is not simple. Every single person has different characteristics, and when you multiply that by the many different types of cars around, you can see that you can't compare car insurance by simply opening a newspaper and looking at who is the cheapest. The fact is that different companies can provide the cheapest car insurance for different people on the same day.

Not so long ago, the only way to do a car insurance comparison was through an insurance broker. You would go to the insurance broker who would take your details and then write off to their contacts at the car insurance companies. Within a fortnight or so, they would get some quotes back, and would then contact you with the best quotes that they could get. There were some problems with this process. Whilst insurance brokers could search the market for you, they did not have the time nor the capacity to search the entire market, which limited the chances of them finding the best quote on the market for you. Also, and this doesn't apply to every broker, they receive commission from the car insurance companies, and may have been tempted to tell you about the quotes for which they get the best commission. All in all, not the most efficient comparison process.

Then companies like Direct Line insurance came into being and they changed the business model. These "direct insurers" allowed you to contact them directly by telephone,- taking out the middle man - which saved them money in commission. This saving could be passed on to you, which is why car insurance premiums started to get cheaper. To combat this, the insurance brokers went online, which meant that you could phone these companies up and they would enter your details on their computer and come back to you with the best quotes. People would normally strike off a whole day to sort out their car insurance as they would have to go on the phone and speak to a customer service person every time and run through their details - this obviously took a while.
The internet has thus been a god send for car insurance comparisons. You are in far more control. It's very simple, sit down at a computer for a while and enter your details on insurance broker sites and you'll get the quotes up, write down the cheapest one then go to the next site and do the same. It's quicker, and you get a bigger view of the market in that time. Always remember though to read the details of the insurance to make sure it is appropriate for you. Car insurance is NEVER cheap if you are underinsured.
