Axa Home Insurance: good value premiums

http://www.axa.co.uk/

Axa is one of the world’s biggest insurance and asset management companies and Axa home insurance often turns up in lists of good value premiums. But as is always the case with insurance, what will suit you best will depend on your own individual circumstances. To find out more about Axa’s buildings and contents insurance visit the Axa home insurance site at www.axahome.co.uk.

Whichever provider you decide to take out home insurance with, check your contents policy carefully before you do so. Will the provider reimburse you with the monetary value of lost goods in the event of a claim or will they insist, as is becoming frequent, that replacements are chosen from a designated retailer? If it’s the latter, you may lose some of the value of the claim if you insist on cash reimbursement. Under Axa home insurance policies the insurer will have lost items repaired, reinstated or replaced but reserves the right, apparently, to decide which. Replacements under policies of this kind usually have to be bought from chosen retailers if the full value of the claim is to be honoured - unless, in theory, a close enough match can’t be found there. This ‘designated retailer’ practice is prevalent among providers because it helps to keep costs down and to discourage fraud. But you have paid for your insurance policy and you have rights. If you encounter any problems with your chosen insurer on this issue, one port of call is the industry’s regulator, the Financial Ombudsman. The Association of British Insurers and the British Insurance Brokers’ Association could also be useful.
