Tesco has recently diversified their business and now offers a wide range of financial services. Numerous other large retailers have been quick to follow suit and today it is possible to organise virtually every aspect of your life in the local supermarket. Life insurance, banking, Internet access and a whole raft of other useful products can be sorted out whilst doing your weekly shop, so it's hardly surprising to learn that Tesco have their own credit card. The question is; does it offer the same value for money as their retail products?

There are two basic cards on offer to Tesco customers. You can choose between Classic and Platinum options and whether you want to pay by the MasterCard or Visa system. Those opting for the Platinum card will get higher levels of credit and increased travel insurance cover and medical assistance. If you earn more than £20,000 per annum, there's another option open to you: Tescos Finest Platinum Card . All cards come with a choice of two designs (a raindrop or a sunflower) and offer APRs that compare favourably with market rivals.

No matter which card you choose you'll get a 0% introductory fixed rate for balance transfers and purchases during the first five months. You'll also be able to enjoy a 58 day interest free period, which is one of the longest available anywhere. Purchase protection, a degree of travel insurance and a guarantee of cover against Internet fraud all come as standard. There is also the possibility of arranging payment protection as well as secure and confidential banking arrangements.

Regular Tesco store shoppers can also look forward to savings as their credit card is directly linked to the Clubcard system, which means that money spent will accrue points. Currently customers earn one point for every £2 spent (on top of points raised during that weekly shop). Anyone upgrading to a Tesco Finest Platinum Card will receive two points for every £2 spent. Clubcard points can be redeemed against shopping costs or exchanged for air miles. Tesco credit cards can be applied for and managed online and the company promises to process applications quickly and with a minimum of hassle.
