Mint credit cards are part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group. Heavy television promotion is succeeding in establishing Mint as a chic alternative to other main-stream credit card companies: for proof you need look no further than their new mc² card, which delivers the style conscious consumer a new curved shape credit card. But there's much more to Mint than just fancy clothes. Their website opens with the promise that 'with us, you don't choose between a low interest rate and other attractive features. Mint has it all'. How far customers agree with them remains to be seen, but overall these cards represent good value for money.
Firstly Mint cards offer one of the lowest APR's on the market, which is combined with a range of attractive incentives such as 0% on balance transfers for the first eight months. For those with larger balances to transfer there is an option to pay back the balance at a low APR over a longer period (until the debt is cleared). Customers can also choose between two cash back rates on their cards. In addition all cards include a number of interest free options on all purchases.
There are four cards available to those wanting to apply. The basic Mint card is available to anyone with over £10,000 income and has a £5000 limit. Customers earning over £20,000 can upgrade to either a Gold or Platinum card and enjoy more credit (up to £15,000) and greater insurance benefits. The special edition mc² card isn't that different form Mint's other cards, except for the curvy shape. All of the above can be applied for (and managed) online and there's 24-hour customer service available if you have any queries.
Mint has also packaged together a number of additional incentives to compliment their basic APR/transfer/cash-back package. Importantly these include: free travel insurance and fraud cover, as well as fringe benefits including membership of a 'home delivery' discount wine service and numerous promotional offers. Customers wanting payment protection or peace of mind should their card be lost or stolen are advised to take out additional cover (either with Mint or another of the big name suppliers, such as: Sentinel or Credit Card Protection). Typically these involve a one-off payment or a percentage of the total spent.
