Student Home Insurance cover

Cast your mind back to university and think about what your home was like there - did you have student home insurance cover? There you were, in your very early twenties, living in a house with other people, all of whom had brought possessions from home. So, if you had a house for 6, then the personal possessions of 6 people would be crammed into the house. That could be 6 TVs, 6 Hi-Fi's, 6 laptops or PCs, 6 sets of clothes, maybe 6 sets of jewellery. Plus you may have rented a large TV and video for the communal lounge and you have appliances in the kitchen as well.

Now think about the security measures you had in your student home. Did you have a burglar alarm? Grilles on your windows? If not, can you remember why not? You had a lot of valuable property in that home and, and can you remember if you protected it properly?

Now you can see why burglars love student houses. Halls of residences are even better, because you get even more people living there in condensed spaces, and they are unlikely to be especially conscious of security either. Easy pickings for thieves. So, how do you protect your possessions when you go away to university?

Well, you can breathe easier and live a worry-free life as a student if you take advantage of a contents home insurance policy created especially for students. These don't cost a great amount, and most UK home insurance companies do have a dedicated product for students.

These policies cover your belongings in addition to being able to take out optional insurance to cover valuable items such as your PC, laptop, or maybe photographic equipment. In addition to this, considering you are renting, you may need to cover yourself in case you cause damage to your landlord's furnishings and furniture, otherwise you may need to pay for accidents that happen.

You are unlikely to own your property as a student. But if you do happen to own the house or flat that you are living in then you can also find insurance companies who provide buildings insurance that is specifically for students.

Like most insurance products, many people feel that they don't want to worry about it. This is especially during one of the most carefree times of your life, your student days. You could also be under tight pressure with money, and may not want to shell out for it. However, the cost of UK student insurance can be spread out over the year and thus can be quite cheap.

Also, since you are struggling for money as a student, if you suffer a loss or a burglary you would be hit very hard relatively, making it even more important to get insurance.
