By trading on the Internet Direct Line car insurance is able to sidestep the ‘middle-men' and pass some of the savings on to the customer, in fact their homepage boasts that they can save you up to 30%. To prove their point all online customers are entitled to a 10% discount.

Vehicle owners have a choice of two levels of cover: third party and comprehensive (the main difference being that the latter also covers accidental damage to the vehicle and provides free windscreen repair or replacement). Direct Line's accident helpline operates 24 hours a day and all repairs are guaranteed for three years.

Direct Line also offers a number of ‘extras' that can be purchased on top of the standard policies, notably: No claims discount protection (after four years), legal expense cover and replacement vehicle cover (which provides a courtesy car while yours is off the road).
